What is Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese natural healing technique that can help with reducing stress, aid with relaxation and sleep and also promotes healing. It is a safe non-invasive and gentle treatment. Reiki is a complementary therapy which works alongside conventional healthcare treatments.

A Reiki treatment is an opportunity for you to take an hour or so away from the stresses and strains of life – to lie down, relax, close your eyes and just let the positive Reiki energy flow through your body. It is a time to put anything negative you may have going on in your life out of your mind and just be.

This is protected time for YOU and as the saying goes….You cannot pour from an empty cup. A Reiki treatment is filling your cup with renewed energy and well-being.

Reiki and the NHS

Reiki is accepted in the NHS in UK and other countries – see this link for more information

What are the benefits of reiki

All experiences of receiving a Reiki treatment are unique to each person but many recipients benefit from a feeling of deep relaxation, peacefulness, mental clarity, pain relief, decreased anxiety, and an overall sense of well-being.

What happens during a treatment

During a Reiki treatment you will remain fully clothed (only shoes need to be removed) and will lie on a coach or sit in a chair, whichever is most comfortable. Generally there will be gentle relaxing music playing in the background and maybe a candle or two burning.

The practitioner will place their hands lightly on, or close to, various parts of the body and the Reiki energy will then flow into your body. Regardless of where the hands are placed, Reiki energy will flow to wherever there may be an imbalance the body. Please note that hands will never be placed on private areas of the body – hands will be placed a few inches above those areas of the body.

Some recipients fall asleep during treatment and this is perfectly fine – Reiki energy will still flow while asleep. Many find that they have a great nights sleep following a treatment.

Following a treatment it is a good idea to drink plenty of water and have a relaxing evening if you can – just to let the feeling of the treatment soak in.

Who can have Reiki

Reiki is a safe natural healing and is therefore safe for adults, including pregnant women, children and babies – and can even be used on animals, plants and food. Reiki can also be used during childbirth – see below about distance Reiki which would be ideal for this situation.

Distance Reiki – for those who cannot get to me for a treatment

Distant healing is as effective as a hands on session. This is extremely useful for those who cannot get to me in person for a variety of reasons

A mutual date/time would be agreed for the treatment – and you just need to make yourself comfortable in a quiet space (lie down or sit in a comfy chair), play some relaxation/Reiki music, burn a candle if you wish – and just close your eyes and let the energy flow. Have some water ready to drink following the treatment.
